Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.
Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager who can attract and retain diverse engineering talent, drive a culture of ownership and excellence, and own the development of strategic services and infrastructure. The right person will collaborate closely with partners, product & program managers, and developers across Disney Streaming organizations to deliver best in class customer experiences to enable growth of Disney Streaming products worldwide.
You'll join a hardworking group of engineers who build and manage systems that is the source of truth for all D+ telemetry and validates all telemetry for all D+ clients - ultimately powering D+ analytics and quality metrics. The team is also responsible for user friendly interfaces for E2E stakeholders like clint devs, QA, business analysts, backend engineers, product, etc.

Responsibilities:
- Building and maintaining a diverse software engineering team: training, career development, mentoring, and process improvement
- Ownership of roadmap and engineering vision for applications and tools
- Collaboration with product managers and other business partners to prioritize work and set goals for the team
- Refining engineering practices and maintaining operational excellence
- Diligence, thoughtfulness, and great verbal and written communication skills
- Proactivity and ability to move fast or pivot to meet the changing needs of the product
- Curiosity for emerging technologies and ability to create space for growth and evolution of products and team
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of engineering management experience
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with a significant portion as a programmer and/or technical leader.
- Experience attracting diverse talent, building and leading teams
- Strong programming skills in an object-oriented language, and a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, databases, etc.)
- Experience with Event driven systems architectures
- Practical knowledge and relevant experience deploying web services in cloud infrastructure
- Experience writing unit tests / implementing test driven development processes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Svelte or modern UI frameworks.
- Experience with AWS cloud technologies
- Experience with server-side rendering (SSR), experience with e2e testing frameworks Playwright or Cypress, Vite or Webpack, experience with observability tools.
- Experience with storage technologies: DynamoDB, RDBMS, NoSQL
- Experience working with remote global teams and a flexible schedule to meet in different time zones.
The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles, CA is $167,700 - $224,900 per year, Seattle, WA / New York, NY is $175,800 - $235,700 per year and in San Francisco, CA is $183,700 - $246,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
