Director, Global Brand Commercialization – Disney Classics/Nat Geo

The Director, Global Brand Commercialization is responsible for analysis and understanding brand health globally, and driving development and growth strategies for the Disney Classics and Nat Geo brands through leadership, vision, creativity and commerciality and an expertise in brand and franchise management. The role will work in partnership with the broader Global Brand Commercialization teams (Category, Marketing, Retail, Creative, Product Development and Finance), driving integrated franchise strategies across the global licensing business.

You will operate transparently and seamlessly, approaching franchise growth through a global lens, enabling the business across regions, while maintaining sensitivity and flexibility to local-level cultures, market conditions and/or team dynamics. In addition, you will lead the communication and mobilization of brand plans, internally and externally, championing alignment and execution, driving and supporting implementation across the business. You will also partner closely with the marketing team and licensees to develop and deploy effective activities to support the overall brand strategies and initiatives. As a leader, you will contribute to building and strengthening a culture that is nimble, productive, forward looking, and entrepreneurial. This role reports to the VP, Global Brand Commercialization.

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Identify category, market, licensee, and audience opportunities for growth to deliver franchise objectives and collaborate on growth target.

  • In partnership with the Vice President, drive development of integrated franchise strategies and brand expansion efforts globally

  • Own relationship with relevant content & brand owners. Evaluate & prioritize new IP & other opportunities.

  • Collaborate effectively with Regional Brand & Franchise partners, Category partners and Cross-Functional partners.

  • Contribute to building and strengthening a culture that is nimble, productive, forward looking, and entrepreneurial. Ensure agendas and action schedules for meetings, including absent stakeholders.

  • Role model integrity, champion change and be a positive ambassador for the Walt Disney Company. Create a meeting culture with the right people at the table, where everyone contributes.

  • Support and guide ideation and implementation of the global franchise strategies. Work effectively with a virtual team (category, retail, marketing, and local teams), supporting and guiding them towards reaching the set commercial objectives.

  • Act as a brand steward for the managed franchises, supporting the business with reviews and approvals to ensure consistency and compliance to the franchise attributes and goals.

  • Represent the brand for all selected internal and external presentations and meetings, supporting the VP, Global Brand Commercialization.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience of building effective relationships, leading and managing change and collaboration across departments to achieve financial targets and joint goals

  • Experience leading different senior stakeholders and getting support through negotiation and influencing, demonstrating resilience, tenacity and diplomacy

  • A blend of commercial and marketing skills

  • Financial acumen understanding lever that can be pulled to deliver commercial growth on a Global scale

  • Strong people management skills, comfortable managing a small team and in-direct stakeholders

  • Ability to use different influencing styles to achieve end goal

  • Comfortable using and working through a matrix structure to deliver the end solution

  • Able to drive internal focus through visual sales tools and compelling strategy

  • Open communicator who shows curiosity for solution seeking

  • Understanding of Global perspective, external context and regional differences

  • Understanding of multiple categories across consumer product

  • An impressive presenter with ability to deliver a compelling message to a varied group (internal and external)

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent


The hiring range for this position in Glendale, CA is $185,500 to $248,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
