About the Role & Team

The Animal Nutrition Center (ANC), part of the Department of Animal Health, is the heart of food preparation for the live animal collection at Walt Disney World. Our mission is to:

  • Deliver steadfast excellence in animal care & welfare through outstanding animal nutrition.

  • Provide the highest quality of animal nutrition as part of the Animal, Science, and Environment animal wellness program.

  • Inspire guests to conservation action by sharing information about the science of animal nutrition.

As an Animal Nutrition Assistant, you’ll play a key role in preparing precise, high-quality diets for a wide variety of species. You’ll also serve as a backup driver, delivering these diets to animal areas - often outdoors and in all weather conditions. The Animal Nutrition Center supports daily operations across two locations - Disney’s Animal Kingdom and The Seas with Nemo and Friends - with standard hours from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and occasional extended shifts.

If selected for this position, you will report to the Animal Nutrition Center Zoological Manager.

This is a Casual Temporary or Seasonal role with no guarantee of weekly working hours, as hours will fluctuate based on business needs.

What You Will Do

  • Prepare and package animal diets accurately by following detailed food prep instructions

  • Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary workspaces in accordance with ANC Standard Operating Guidelines

  • Monitor inventory and communicate changes or needs to ensure consistent food quality and availability

  • Safely operate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and company vehicles

  • Engage with Guests and Cast Members to share insights into animal nutrition and conservation

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Working knowledge of basic nutrition concepts and their impact on animal health and welfare

  • Ability to move 200-pound carts and lift up to 50 pounds (with team lifts up to 75 pounds)

  • Understanding of food safety practices and their role in maintaining diet integrity

  • Proven experience working effectively in a team environment

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation to access on-property work locations

  • Full availability for any shift, seven days a week—including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Familiarity with various food preparation equipment

  • Ability to portion food using both U.S. and metric measurements

  • Comfortable facilitating guest interactions and sharing educational messages

Education

  • 2+ years of college education and/or experience in diet preparation, animal care, food service, or laboratory work
