Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Production Safety, the Production Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe execution of film and television productions covered by Disney’s Occupational Health & Safety Program. Based in the United States, this position provides technical guidance, conducts risk assessments, and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state (including Cal/OSHA), and local health, safety, and environmental regulations. The Manager collaborates with production teams and third-party safety consultants to implement safety procedures and address risks related to high-hazard activities. Additionally, the Manager participates in sustainability initiatives, engages with industry specialists, joins task forces, and supports environmental responsibility efforts across productions.

This role is essential to Disney’s commitment to safety and risk management during physical production. The Manager connects corporate safety policies with operational practices, maintaining the visibility and integration of safety measures throughout all production activities.

Responsibilities:

Production Safety & Sustainability Operations 

  • Provide technical safety guidance to productions during all phases: pre-prep, prep, shoot, and strike.
  • Conduct field safety audits and inspections of sets, workshops, and construction areas.
  • Support third-party safety advisors in developing and implementing safety programs.
  • Integrate sustainability practices into production departments (e.g., transportation, costumes, set design), pilots new technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.
  • Assist in establishing KPIs, tracks progress and provides department-level updates to ensure transparency and informed decision-making regarding safety and sustainability goals.
  • Responsible for prioritizing tasks across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Partner and communicate with the global safety team; final outcomes for manager-review.

Training & Orientation 

  • Deliver safety inductions and training sessions for crew members, including Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) education.
  • Facilitate occupational health and safety training (e.g., PPE, tool use, equipment inspections, etc.).

Risk Assessment & Compliance 

  • Create and review risk assessments for potentially hazardous activities (e.g., stunts, SPFX, rigging).
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other applicable U.S. safety regulations.

Advisor & Vendor Coordination  

  • Assist productions in vetting and appointing qualified safety advisors and technical consultants.
  • Liaise with external safety, hygiene, and engineering resources as needed.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Investigate and report injuries and incidents.
  • Interface with regulators and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience conducting field safety audits, safety inductions, and risk assessments in film/TV production or other safety-related field required.
  • Experience with occupational hygiene, environmental compliance and sustainability.
  • Experience with facilitating training with crews and teams.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 40%
  • Candidate should reside in NYC.
  • Experience managing or overseeing a crew or team.
  • Knowledge of digital systems such as AirTable, Microsoft Suite, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and/or Project Management tools
  • Effective PowerPoint/deck building and communication skills required.
  • Certification/knowledge in OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and U.S. safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skillset in technical writing and development of PowerPoints for presentations and educational training materials
  • Certifications: CIH, CSP, ARM, or equivalent.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical management, engineering, safety, or film/TV production.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $119,200.00 to $159,800.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
