The Senior Manager, Production Safety provides regional leadership and operational oversight for production safety across The Walt Disney Company’s (TWDC) physical productions and events in the U.S., as well as the Disney Theatrical Group (DTG). This role reports and bridges strategic direction from the Director of Production Safety with on-the-ground execution, ensuring productions are supported with timely guidance, consistent safety standards, and compliance with applicable regulations. The Senior Manager supervises Production Safety Managers and Advisors, ensuring alignment with corporate safety strategy and goals, as well as regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
Regional Safety Leadership & Team Management
- Lead and manage a team of Production Safety Managers in region.
- Provide mentorship, training, and performance oversight to safety staff.
- Develop a talent pool of Production Safety Advisors in region.
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure safety standards are upheld and productions remain on schedule.
- Support team members in prioritizing tasks across multiple concurrent projects.
Production Safety & Sustainability Oversight
- Oversee technical safety guidance during all phases of production: pre-prep, prep, shoot, and strike.
- Pilot new technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
- Establish and monitor KPIs for safety and sustainability; provide updates to leadership.
Policy Implementation & Compliance
- Implement safety policies and programs aligned with federal and local standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, Cal/OSHA, FDNY).
- Conduct and oversee field safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Analyze audit findings and trends; develop action plans and training improvements.
- Ensure compliance with occupational hygiene, environmental regulations, and sustainability goals.
Training & Orientation
- Oversee delivery of safety inductions and training sessions for crew members.
- Ensure consistency in Injury, Illness, Prevention Program (IIPP) education and occupational health and safety training across productions.
- Support development of training materials and digital learning tools.
Advisor & Vendor Coordination
- Supervise the vetting and appointment of qualified safety advisors and technical consultants.
- Liaise with external safety, hygiene, and engineering resources as needed.
Incident Management & Reporting
- Lead investigations and reporting of injuries and incidents.
- Interface with regulators and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Studio Stakeholders such as Physical Production, Legal, Labor Relations, HR, Risk Management, and Governmental Affairs on safety-related matters.
- Liaise with landlords and facilities teams to understand site-specific safety needs.
- Represent TWDC in industry forums and regulatory engagements.
Strategic & Operational Integration
- Contribute to regional safety strategy in collaboration with the Director.
- Monitor production safety KPIs and ensure business continuity through risk control.
- Influence safety culture across all levels of production.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in production safety in media (TV, film, studio, or theatre), including team leadership and field safety operations.
- 3+ Year of leadership experience (director reporting) required.
- Proven ability to implement safety programs, manage audits, and lead incident investigations.
- Experience in technical writing and development of training materials.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. safety regulations including OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and environmental compliance.
- The ability to travel 25% both locally and internationally with short notice.
- Candidates are required to reside within a reasonable proximity to our office located at 7th Hudson Square, New York City.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with international productions and cross-border safety logistics.
- Familiarity with SPFX, stunts, rigging, and other high-risk production environments.
- Certifications such as CIH, CSP, ARM, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in digital systems (e.g., AirTable, Microsoft Suite, LMS, project management tools).
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in safety, Engineering, Risk Management, Environmental Management, or related field or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Education:
Master’s degree in environmental management, Health & Safety, or related field.
The hiring range for this position in 7 Hudson, NYC is $145,800.00 to $195,600.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
